Professor Vassilis Anastassopoulos Vassilis Anastassopoulos was born in Patras, Greece. He received the B.Sc. degree in Physics in 1980 and his Ph.D. in Electronics in 1986, both from the University of Patras, Greece. He worked for two years in Canadian Scientific Institutions. He is an academic staff member in Physics Department, University of Patras, Greece from 1987. He is a Professor from 2005. He was the Head of Physics Department, University of Patras, for the biennium 2001-2003 and 2005-2007, and the Vice Rector for Strategic Research Planning and Development in the University of Patras from 2006 to 2010. His publication record contains over 80 journal and conference papers with over than 300 citations. He is a member of Digital Information Processing group, and his research interests are within the scope of Digital Signal Processing-Sigma Delta Modulators (Book), Image Processing and Analysis, Image Morphology, Radar Signal Processing and Remote Sensing with emphasis in Multi-spectral, SAR and Infrared Imagery, Signal Detection, Pattern Recognition with emphasis in Handwritten Analysis, and Information Fusion including Image Fusion, Decision Fusion and Sensor Fusion Architectures. Professor George Economou George Economou received the B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Patras (UP), Patras, Greece, the M.S. degree in Microwaves and Modern Optics from University College, London, U.K., and the Ph.D. degree in fiber optic sensor systems from UP in 1976, 1978, and 1989, respectively. Currently, he is a Professor of physics with UP. His research interests include signal and image processing, computer vision, biometric recognition, optical signal processing. Professor Spiros Fotopoulos Spiros Fotopoulos was born in Kalamata, Greece, in 1952 and is a father of 5 children. He completed his B.Sc. studies in the Department of Physics at the University of Athens (1969-1974) and received his PhD in Electronics in 1983 from the Department of Physics of the University of Patras (Prof. T. Deliyannis). During his PhD studies, he visited the Department of Electrical Engineering, Imperial College (Prof. Saraga). He visited (6 months) the Tampere University of Technology (Prof. Neuvo) and got experience in median and nonlinear digital filters. He has been an academic member of staff of the University of Patras since 1983. He is Professor of Signals and Circuits since 2003, Director at the Interdepartmental Course of Postgraduate Studies in "Electronics and Information Processing" of the University of Patras and coordinator of the intrauniversity network BIOMETRIA of the University of Patras. He was recently appointed director of the Electronics Laboratory of the University of Patras. Prof. Fotopoulos teaches courses in Circuit Theory and in Digital Signal and Image Processing. His research activities include, Segmentation and Coding, Multimedia databases, Content Based Image Retrieval, Video retrieval, Human centric image processing, Biomedical and Biometric applications. Under his supervision 5 PhD students have already completed their theses and 4 are this moment in progress. His publication record includes more than 100 journal and conference papers and 3 book chapters. Christos Theoharatos Dr Christos Theoharatos was born in Athens in 1973. He received a BSc degree in Physics in 1998, an MSc degree in Electronics & Computer Science in 2001, and a PhD degree in Image Processing and Multimedia Retrieval in 2006, all from the Electronics Laboratory (ELLAB - http://www.ellab.physics.upatras.gr), Depr. of Physics, University of Patras (UoP), Greece. He is currently a Post-Doc research fellow at ELLAB - UoP and member of the Digital Information Processing group. During the last five years he has been acting as a Technical Manager in a number of European and National R&D projects in the fields of signal and image processing, multimedia services and information technology. Since 2002, he has been working as a tutor at the degree of lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Technological Institute of Patras. Foteini Fotopoulou PhD Candidate Foteini Fotopoulou was born in Patras, Greece in 1985. She received her B.Sc. degree in 2008 in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Technology - Polytechnic School of the University of Patras and in 2010 she graduated from the MSc joint Graduate program of "Electronics & Information Processing" of the Departments of Computer and Informatics Engineering and Physics. Kastaniotis Dimitris PhD Candidate Dimitris Kastaniotis was born in Athens in 1984. He received the title of T.E. Engineer in 2009 from T.E.I. of Patras and an MSc degree in Electronics and Information Processing in 2011 from Department of Physics, University of Patras, Patras (UoP), Greece. He is currently a PhD candidate in Computer Vision at the Department of Physics of (UoP). During the last 3 years he has been acting as a Teaching assistant in Programming I, programming II and Electronics, at the Department of Physics. Also he has colaborated work with Irida Labs, on Computer Vision Applications. During his undergraduate studies, he received three honorary fellowships from the National Foundation of Scholarships, as also two honorary prizes due to excellent performance. Furthermore, he graduated with honors from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Dr. Andreas Makedonas Dr Andreas Makedonas was born in Patras in 1977. He received a BSc degree in Physics in 2002, an MSc degree in Electronics & Computer Science in 2005, and a PhD degree in Image Processing and Database Organization in 2009, all from the Electronics Laboratory (ELLAB), Depr. of Physics, University of Patras (UoP), Greece. He is currently a Post-Doc research fellow at ELLAB - UoP. Since 2009, he has been working as a tutor at the degree of lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Technological Institute of Patras. Dr. Athanasios Zagouras Dr. Athanassios Zagouras was born in Patras, Greece, in 1980. He received a BSc degree in Physics in 2004, an MSc degree in Electronics and Information Processing in 2007, and a PhD degree in Cluster Analysis of Environmental Data in 2012, all from Physics Department, University of Patras, Greece. His main research interests include pattern recognition, data mining, cluster analysis, data clustering algorithms, artificial neural networks, surface solar irradiance and solar forecasting. He joined the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego in September 2012, and is now a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering - UCSD.

Ioannis Rigas PhD Candidate Mr. Ioannis Rigas was born in the city of Patras, Greece, in 1981. He received his B.Sc. degree in Physics in 2005 and his M.Sc. degree in Electronics and Computer Science in 2008, both from the Physics Department at University of Patras, Greece. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D degree focusing his research in the domain of "Anthropocentric Processing and Analysis of Visual Information". Georgia Koukiou PhD Candidate
Georgia Koukiou was born in Patras. She received the B.Sc. degree in Physics in 2004 and her M.Sc. in Electronics and Computers in 2006, both from the University of Patras. Her master thesis dealt with Current Feedback Operational Amplifiers, which led to the publication of a book: "CFOAs in Analog Integrated Filter Design" by Lambert Academic Publishing in October 2011. She is a Ph.D. student in Electronics and Computers and she is member of the research team of Digital Image and Signal Processing in the University of Patras. Her research interests are in Identification of Psychosomatic Conditions Using Infrared Facial characteristics. Emphasis is given in recognizing drunk persons using Thermal imagery.
